Idea about Gender

Dear friends,
I have also discuss about gender with my closest friend: Mico Siahaan.
You know what, every time I start the conversation about gender, his face
and his neck will straight cramp:-)

All I want to share is the fact that women in every region in this earth
have suffered from mistreatment based on gender identity. According to a
book I read, biologically, human being is born as man or woman. So, we all
agree that physically man and woman are different.
Then he/ she is taught as a boy or a girl, so that one day they will grow
up and be a man or woman as what community hoped to be. That make
sociologically, he/she is 'constructed' with specific role and task.
Based on that social construction, human being get the gender identity
according to sexes. Human being come into a stereotype that people made,
and he/ she lost the identity as God have established.

I agree, we have to refere to the Bible, the ultimate truth, when we
discuss about gender. It will hinder us from useless argue and also lighten
our hearts. No one will hardly agree with bible, right? :-)

Paul said to people in Corinthians: I Cor 11:11-12,
In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man
independent of woman. For as woman came from man, so also man is born of
woman. But everything comes from God.
Also in Gal 3: 27-28.
for all of you who were babtized into Christ have clothed yourselves with
Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female,
for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

I love you all.

Every household in Jakarta is obliged to manage waste water

What a beautiful regulation, isn't it? I read it in kompas, thursday 17
March 05, on page 17.
That what we, from environmental background, have been struggle to achieve:
the awareness of every body about their own environment.
But, when I read it thorough, it appears that the tools that government
will use is made in Malaysia. Head of Bapedal DKI, Mr. Kosasih said that
they have been work with Pembinaan Jayabumi Berhard, Serawak, to produce
the new septic tank, that will substitute the old conventional one.
I feel very angry. Don't we have our own resources??? There are many
Environmental Engineer from Indonesia! I am, one of them. I am sure there
are many experiment arround septictank had been made by our engineer. I
wonder, what is Mr. Kosasih's background? For how long will Indonesia
refuse to use our own human resource?

What a mess!

Yesterday an uncontrolled thing happen in DPR office. I think everybody has
been aware of this issue.
What I reflect from this occasion is: the effect to our young generation.
Wise people said, Children follows older people's model, especially their
parent's model.
Words and money can not make the children grow with a good character if the
parents fail to give example.
Most of the House member are parents. I can imagine how they children grow
if their parent act like a wild. Easy to get angry, reluctant of critics,
brutal.

That is what our future generation will be.

Culture and Christianity
One of my reflection lately is the power of culture in most of Bataknese life and even in other cultural life. As christians, i notice that many of us are still bounded and consider this as the important thing in our life. It determine our status among others. And if we cannot fulfil the culture request, we will be abandoned from the'brotherhood'.
What a pity, I think.

I wonder, is it really needed? Shouldn't we have to place the Word in the first place? Shouldn't we have to seek God will and put it as the most important thing?

What I read today is a book which strenghten my thought:
Christians believe that what is good is determined by the will of God, nut by culture. The goal of ethics is not cultural conformity but transformation into the likeness of Christ. All Christians in every culture are invited to have the mind of Christ, to humble themselves and be servants to others. (Phil 2).
(bernard t. adeney)

I hope we, christians, would know what is good and what is not. God bless us.

My Visit to Yessy Gusman' house
On Saturday, 5 March 2005, I and my friends visited Yessy Gusman's house.
we would like to introduce ourselves and offering a help to her 'Taman Bacaan'.
When I introduce my name and my institution, she directly said, " Oh, World Vision! I supported a child in Africa through World Vision when I was studying in America. The office is on Wahid Hasyid, right?."
Wow, what a surprise that Yessy Gusman already know WVI.
I admire he spirit in striving her dreams, facilitating Indonesians children to access many books to read.
She invites us to attend the launching of her 'Rumah Nusantara' in Duret Tiga Jakarta, on 19 March 2005.
I will tell you each of our dialogue topics later, ok. I have to get back to work
